Since the birth of the interwebs, great music can not only be found at a local show or open mic, but now through a variety of different mediums. One platform that is home to many rising stars, talents, and oddities would be the giant, YouTube.
U.K. born and now residing in France, 21-yr old Abbey Glover managed to steal my heart for her sincerity and lyricism. Armed with only a ukulele, Glover’s videos range from covers to originals such as “Hardest Part” which mirrors nicely against her most viewed track, “I Wish You Liked Girls.”
Regardless of the latter’s popularity, “Hardest Part” seems to open up Glover as a songwriter versus a young girl covering songs or stenciling words around love. Circling around a lost key and what seems to be an overwhelming amount of heartache, Glover glides over a bittersweet tune with vulnerability. “Hardest Part” is still raw but genuinely breathtaking to see layers of Glover become exposed on screen: “And this house is so full and messy / This house I call my head / And I’m trying so hard to find it, But letting you in is the hardest part.”
Relatable, simple, and honest, Glover’s original songs only foreshadow great things for the young songwriter and viewers who digest her videos.
